The Guild Gives Back

We often hear the question: "What are you raising money for?" when putting on events.

In accordance with our mission statement, the BHCAG seeks to broaden and deepen the creative art experience of the people of Greybull, Wyoming, Big Horn County and the residents of Wyoming, the Guild has several goals.

So, how does raising money for the Guild accomplish those goals? What are we doing with what we've raised?

One of the Guild's main pillars of our mission statement is to keep the artistic culture of the towns, county and state alive. By holding events throughout the year, we keep art alive and relevant to our residents, and draw the attention of tourists who visit. This additional revenue is important to small communities,  who see economical growth when art is present. Because we want to contribute the the growth of our local economy, the Guild uses funds raised to rent events centers in our towns to host events, and shops at local stores to acquire food and decor for such events. This allows not only the Guild to make money off events, but other local businesses as well. As the Guild continues to grow, we hope to host more events, and larger events, in order to bring even more money to our local economy.

In support of our artists, we aim to help them gain recognition for their work, both locally and throughout the state of Wyoming and beyond. We do this by featuring them in our shows, on our website (click here to meet them) and social media pages, and doing our best to point them in the direction of other opportunities to show their work. The Guild also uses funds to purchase display items and decor for artists to use at shows.

Another way to keep art alive in our communities, and to give back to the people to support us, is through our mural projects. The Greybull mural, completed by members on the side of CC's Pizza in 2022, was just the beginning. The eventual goal is to provide towns throughout Big Horn County with some type of mural. Fundraising allows us to do that at a lesser cost to the communities who will receive murals. The Guild is still in the planning phase for future murals, so stay tuned for more details!

Members of the Guild would also like to eventually offer creative sector scholarships or other opportunities to our high school graduates. What that will exactly look like, we do not yet know, but as we grow as a group, we hope to be able to give back to the next generation of creatives in our communities. In the meantime, the Guild used its Days of '49 Arts Festival to raise $300 for the Greybull High School Arts Program, and hopes to do more in the future.

Lastly, the BHCAG, like any organization or business, has expenses in order for us to operate. Our fundraisers allow us to pay for things such as advertising, office supplies, website fees, and other expenses.

All members of the BHCAG would like to thank the residents of Greybull and the surrounding areas for their support. As we begin a new year, we hope to continue to grow and give back!

Looking Ahead...

The members of the BHCAG are taking a break for the summer, and will begin planning their next event in October 2025. Stay tuned for exciting news and events!

2025 marked the Big Horn County Arts Guild's fifth annual Quick Draw/Finish and art auction. The quick draw/finish and auction is the Guild's flagship event: the very first event produced by the Guild when the artists came together in 2021. This year's celebration brought back the popular quick draw/finish and auction that sold the created pieces, pairing the artists with local businesses around main street to finish their creations, just like they did the first year.

This year also saw the return of the indoor art show, introduced in 2024. The show featured art from members of the Guild, and judges selected by the officers awarded ribbons and certificates for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the following categories: 2D, 3D, and Photography. The judges also awarded a Best in Show, and community members got to vote for their favorite piece in the people's choice. Officers of the Guild also awarded one piece with an Officers' Choice award.

The BHCAG hosted their 3rd annual winter arts gala featuring fine art, music, and food from 7-10 PM Saturday, Feb. 8th at the Shell Hall! Seventeen pieces of brand-new, never before seen art were revealed to the public on the Hall's stage. Art from a variety of mediums was featured, including paintings: oils, acrylics, and watercolors, jewelry, ceramics, photography, 3D printing, and even painted skulls!

This year's silent auction featured a new twist: bids that landed on the green lines of each sheet were entered into a drawing to win a raffle basket filled with goodies donated by the artists of the Guild!

Mike Laird provided MC services this year, and kept the event flowing smoothly throughout the evening.

The Silver Spur and Victoria Wright handled the bar and catering service, respectively, with Wright recreating the giant graze table that has been a popular staple of the gala for the last 3 years.

Winter Arts Gala, A Valentine's Masquerade: February 9th, 2024

Greybull Mural: September 2022

The first of what the Guild hopes to be many murals throughout the county, the Greybull mural was a massive undertaking for the newly formed group. Having only just come together in June of 2022, many of the Guild members were still getting to know one another. Despite this, they teamed up, along with students from the Greybull school district and members of the community, to make it happen. Generous donations from the town poured in, and the Greybull mural, featuring the iconic Big Horn mountains and other scenes of the area, came to life.  The project took several weeks and a lot of paint. Upon its completion, the Town of Greybull and the Guild held a ribbon cutting ceremony and dedicated the mural to the community. The mural can be seen on the side of CC's Pizza (427 Greybull Ave.)

Days of '49 Arts Festival: June 11th, 2022

The Big Horn County Arts Guild held their very first event as an arts association in conjunction with the Town of Greybull's Days of '49 celebration. In the weeks prior to the event, artists in the community came together to form the Guild. They elected officers, planned their first event, and got started on their bylaws, mission statements, and constitution.

The Days of 49' Arts Festival featured and art walk with local businesses, who hosted artists in their establishments. Artists sold and displayed their work, and several participated in a quick draw/finish event. The pieces produced that day were auctioned off live as a fundraiser for the Guild.

This being the inaugural event of the Guild, the members of the BHCAG plan to make it an annual event.
